Installation

APPLYING LUMIGRAF DRUM WRAP

STEP 1 – REMOVE ALL HARDWARE
Drum shell must be completely smooth for the application of wrap. Remove all hardware – heads, rims, manufacturer’s labels, grommets, lugs, etc. Remove any existing wrap. Using sandpaper, smooth any areas where the old wrap has lifted bits of the shell. For raised rough spots caused by glue, use glue remover.

STEP 2 – PREPARE TO APPLY DRUM WRAP
Lay wrap down on a soft surface (like a carpeted area) to ensure wrap does not scratch during installation. Decide where the seam is to be (not facing the audience – to hide seam completely, place under a set of lug-casings). Make sure wrap is the proper width between bearing edges, allowing 1/8” or ¼” of the wood to show at each sound edge, and 1 ½” to 2” overlap at the seam. Practice placing the wrap around the drum as tightly and evenly as possible, making sure both edges of the seam are even.

STEP 3 – APPLY DRUM WRAP
When you are confident about the placement of the wrap, remove backing of tape and very carefully adhere wrap to the drum shell, making sure both edges of the seam are even.  Only when you are certain of the correct placement of the wrap, press the wrap onto the shell. Roll on a straight surface to secure the seam.
Allow 12 hours for tape to bond.

STEP 4 – PREPARE TO REINSTALL HARDWARE
Keep protective covering on the wrap during this process.
Recreate holes covered by the wrap using a drill. To avoid scratching the wrap, always drill from the inside of the drum, using consistent moderate pressure – do not press hard. To avoid forcing the material up or breaking the seam, cover a smooth block of scrap wood with masking tape and hold it against the outside of the drum, drilling into it. We also recommend drilling a guide hole with a small drill bit, then using the bigger one.
Clean all hardware before reinstallation to remove any rust or dust.
STEP 5 – REINSTALL HARDWARE
Lugs or mounts should be re-installed firmly, but do not over-tighten.  Take care when replacing the heads that you do not scratch the wrap. Keep protective covering on the wrap during this process, removing it only as you need to replace hardware.
